Unmarried brethren who are younger than 30 may serve as ordinance workers. I admit that I am hesitant to date people who already have children because as far as men I have come across they always figure they are done having children, and I want my own children. Being a step-parent, is nice and fine, but those children already have a mother .
For those of us who find ourselves unmarried— even if you were previously married— no matter how impressive your resume, career achievement or college degrees, in very manifest ways, we are still treated as adolescents. This applies to men and to women, incidentally. To be honest I think a lot of those experiences are fabricated because there’s no defense against “God told me lol,” though the people talk themselves into believing they’re not fabricating them. A friend’s mom had a spiritual witness that her daughter should break up with her fiance the mother coincidentally had never liked. They were great for each other and now her daughter is single at 40. As weak as the “prophet’s” supposed revelatory facilities are, it’s absurd for the rank-and-file to assume any subjective feeling or thought is from God actually.
Why It’s Tough to Be a Mormon Man
Many local LDS congregations host weekend dances and other social events where their young people are encouraged to invite non-member friends. With hormones raging, many nonmembers end up becoming attracted to the wholesome Latter-day Saints whom they meet. In the past few months, I have counseled two former Christian high school teenage male students, each of whom had independently become romantically involved with Mormons. They both were encouraged to participate in the missionary lessons and join the LDS Church if they hoped to take their relationships to the next level. Granted, it was the choice of these young men to date outside their faith, but they ended up getting pressured to convert to Mormonism.
I’d like to speak up about the opposite perspective – those same issues are internalized by the women, as well… and show up within our intimate relationships whether we’re dating exmo or nevermo men. Mom, Gma, sister, aunt, wife, RS President, sisters in the ward, daughters…every female is a caretaker. Unfortunately, most of the women in the church accept this as normal and play these roles.
The church is full of pharisees who eagerly anticipate skewering the unworthy for their flaws while conveniently ignoring their own. Christ went after the pharisees in His time, and I suspect he’s not too happy with modern-day pharisees either. So in spite of the hell I’ve gone through I am thrilled to get a do-over. I don’t care about the women who would reject me for not having a current temple recommend.
And I live in Utah where there are quite a few Mormons and plenty of single men. I’m willing to date a bit younger than myself too, but guys my age or younger who haven’t been married don’t want someone with kids (I’ve had a few specifically tell me that) and they’re all looking at the 20-year-olds. I’ve gotten a bit of attention from the 40+ crowd, but many of them have been married before and I’m uncomfortable dating anyone 10 years or more older than me. I’m not conventionally attractive necessarily, but I’m educated, have a good job, own my house, and feel like I’m generally a pretty cool person. The problem is that guys my age seem to want someone they can create a life with, not someone who already has their own life. I’m 36 and got divorced nearly 3 years ago.

LDS Singles is more of an old-fashioned-looking app than eHarmony and Mutual. But, it’s the lack of action on the app that’ll leave Mormon men feeling frustrated. EHarmony will make you take an extensive personality test before you’re able to communicate with any of its other members. You can’t proclaim something to be the gold standard without everything else being silver by definition. As for the demographics, no amount of midsingles conferences, LDS dating websites, or networking can fix the gender imbalance. I honestly think the best thing is to not stigmatize interfaith marriage quite so much. Not only are the pure numbers an impediment, but we have a serious case of gender imbalance that makes this a particularly difficult feat for LDS women to achieve.
Imperfection, human condition, we’re all in the same boat, as much as we’d like to laugh at the uterus guy for saying something that none of us could imagine saying. There wouldn’t be much sense in struggling to find mates in this life if we were to be automatically put in prearranged marriages in the next life. Can’t add much to the LDS Dating Scene problem. Side note – don’t you think, when a surviving spouse remarries in mortality, that predeceased spouse isn’t doing the same kind of thing in the spirit world?
It’s not actually necessary for the latter-day saints to arrange marriages. We all have the freedom to agree with arranged marriages or not. Showing interest is all right—smile, laugh, talk, be friendly—but flirting can cross the line if it’s too aggressive. You may not even be totally aware that you’re flirting. And because it isn’t just what you say but how you say it , flirting can also be easily misinterpreted.
I married at 30 to a non-member because he is the right person for me. I was accused of “settling” and being “desperate” because I married him, which I found grossly condescending and very untrue. I went to BYU, I went to a singles ward after that, but I found my person somewhere else. God wants us to be happy and I firmly believe He would rather we married good, caring people than spend a lifetime alone. By contrast, the California university dating scene is much smaller, with only a few dozen LDS students attending a local singles ward, but there are something like 14 engaged couples in that ward right now.

While Mormons apparently can date outside their faith as long as their partners are pure and wholesome, they are not supposed to marry nonmembers. Thus, the Christian boyfriend or girlfriend is typically required to join the LDS Church before the relationship can head to the next https://mydatingadvisor.com/ step, which could be a Mormon temple wedding ceremony. While Christians certainly can and should have friendships with those from other religions, including Mormons, they also need to understand the potential pitfalls when others are trying to convert them to their faith.
